FEE Based Rates

Federally insured by the FDIC or NCUA up to $250,000 for IRAs.

06/01/2013 — Current Fed Funds rate (range): 0.00% to 0.25%. For only the second time in history, the Fed set a target range instead of a target rate.

Rates are subject to change at any time.

The FDIC changed the insurance coverage for IRAs as of April 1, 2006. Now, your IRA CD is insured up to $250,000 at each institution. How I relish the day when I actually have to watch my balances that closely. IRA CDs are also insured separately from other personal accounts you have at the bank.

Jumbo CD Investments charges a fee for our services. There are many sources of free IRA rates out there, but they don’t offer much service. They are also only accountable to their advertisers. If they misquote a rate or you have problems with the bank, there isn’t much they can (or will) do about it. That isn’t to say we are perfect, we are not. But if we don’t deliver what we promised, we don’t get paid. As a result, we are more accountable to you.

Our IRA CD service is different from what many other brokers offer. We have bank relationships that want us to refer customers to them without having to broker the account. And even with our fee, in most cases, you will have more money in your pocket at the end of your CD term. Your IRA CD is invested under your title and SS#, funds are sent directly to the bank, and you have complete control over them.

Our service is mainly tailored to Traditional/Roth IRA Rollovers and self-directed IRAs. An IRA rollover means the funds are typically transferred from a qualifying employee retirement plan such as a 401(k), SIMPLE IRA, or SEP plan. Naturally, your funds will retain their tax-deferred status. A self-directed IRA is an IRA account you have control over and retain the option to transfer funds from one trustee to another. In this case, the new trustee would be the bank or credit union that you select. Although, traditional IRAs allow for tax penalty free withdrawals after 59½, if the funds are in a bank CD, the bank may impose an early withdrawal penalty if you close your CD account early. If you are 59½ and you need the monthly income, set the CD up to have monthly interest sent to you. If you are planning on needing some of the principal, ladder your portfolio to match those needs.

Please note that many banks and credit unions don’t accept SIMPLE and SEP IRAs. The rates above may not be available for those types. If you know of any institutions with good rates, that will accept them, please let us know. We will pay for referals.

*The highest rates quoted may require $100,000. Please let us know the amount of your investment, so that we can provide accurate quotes.
