NewBank – CD Rates and Checking Account Special

Updated: 2/12/2008. NewBank, a division of PremierWest Bank (FDIC# 32975) has on-line specials for CDs, Savings Accounts?and Checking Accounts.

NewBank was formerly part of Stockmans Bank based in Elk Grove, CA. Stockmans merged into PremierWest which is based in Medford, OR.

The CD Rates are competitive if you are comparing banks.? 1-Year at 3.65% APY and 2-year at 3.50% APY.

The Savings Rate isn’t bad either for our current environment. It stands at 3.50% APY. There are some higher ones out there though.

The checking account has a bonus feature of $50 if you maintain a $2,500 balance for 90-Days.

Countrywide Bank Savings Rate

Countrywide Bank is offering high rates on their savings accounts, money markets and CDs.

[Side Note: Today (1/11/08) Bank of America annoucned they were buying Countrywide Financial Corp. Although I don't believe this necessitates a merger of the banks, that will most likely happen.]

For $50,000 and above, the savings rate is 5.25% APY. Updated 01/08/2008.

They have over $99 Billion dollars in assets and are FDIC insured. Their FDIC# is 33143.

ING Direct is offering a decent Savings Rate at 3.40% APY.? It is called the Orange Savings Account.? Click here?for details.

They also have an Electric Orange Checking account that pays 3.93% APY if you maintain $100,000.? The rate isn’t bad for $50,000 – $100,000, either.? Click here for details.

EmigrantDirect has had their best savings rate for quite some time.? EmigrantDirect is a division of Emigrant Bank in New York.?This savings account works really well.? You link the account to another bank account, such as where you do your primary banking, and you can transfer funds between the two accounts on-line.

Like HSBC, their current yield is 5.05%.? Remember, this is not the simple rate.? Your actually earnings will depend on how long you leave the funds into the account and how often the bank compounds the interest.

HSBC Direct Savings Account Rate – Updated Jan 2008

HSBC has one of highest savings rates. The current savings rate is 3.00% APY. The account needs to be set-up on-line. Keep in mind that your actual earnings will depend on how long you leave the funds in the account.

They are quite a large bank with over $169 Billion in assets. In the US, they have multipel FDIC#s, but it appears the savings accounts are issued under FDIC# 57890.
