Nordstrom fsb – CD Rates

October 27th, 2010

This is our third “bonus” post featuring various bank or credit union CD rates. Folks subscribing to the rate alerts will get them together. I didn’t want to inundate you with emails. I also wanted to point out the new section on our blog called “Featured Banks” that you can click on in the menu above. This will give you quick access to which banks have recently been posted about as well as if they have been updated. I will probably also add links to a listing of the most popular terms such as 1-year, 2-year, etc. I sure could use some feedback on whether or not you think we are on the right track. Please leave a comment below. With great encouragement, comes great CD Rates. :O)

Nordstrom fsb doesn’t have the best rates, but what they lack for in rates, they make-up for in service. We’ve referred people to them and they have always been pleasant and quick to respond. For customer service I would give them a 15 out of 10. :O) In addition, they have phenomenal financials. The bank basically supports the credit card business of the Nordstrom department store and given their clientele, they don’t seem to be having too much trouble with loan losses. Their current profit is a whopping 15% of assets. You won’t see that very often.

Nordstrom fsb has a competitive 1-year term and okay 5-year. One of the big draw backs is their large early withdrawal penalty. Also, I’m sure the above URL looks strange, but believe me it will save you a lot of time trying to track down the right section for the CDs. That is another potential frustration. The website is designed to feature the store and credit cards. The CD and checking account info is kind of tucked away.

  1. Ken Says:

These CD rates sure vary a lot based on deposit size. There’s a 50 bps difference between a $10K deposit vs. a $100K deposit. It seems like fewer banks have that much difference these days. Have you seen the same thing?

  2. Best CD Rates Says:

Hi Ken. Always feels good when you are checking up on us. :O) In general, I have seen banks move away from such large differences in the rate tiers. I suspect a lot of it has to do with the perceived value of a CD customer. With online processes, it doesn’t cost the bank any more or less to set-up a smaller vs. a larger CD. With old school banks, though, that cost exists and so some banks still pay a premium for larger accounts.
